Give Blood for Red Cross Month

Monday, March 13, 2017

The American Red Cross has been supporting Americans for over 130 years.

Each year they train more than 9 million people in first aid and other life-saving tactics. They also collect and distribute more than 40% of the nation’s supply of blood! They respond to almost 70,000 annual disasters in the U.S. by providing food, shelter and emotional support to those in need. This incredible organization also offers 24-hour support to members of the military and their families.

In March 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the month of March “Red Cross Month.” Every President thereafter has continued FDR’s tradition, designating March as a time to support the organization for their noble mission in making the world a safer place.

There are many ways to support the Red Cross, but one of the most important ways is by giving blood. Donors may give blood every 56 days, should be in good general health, at least 17 years of age, and weigh at least 110 lbs. Visit here for more information on other eligibility requirements.

If you are not able to give blood, or simply looking for other ways to give back, you can support Red Cross Month by making a donation, taking a first-aid class, or becoming a volunteer. It is in giving that we receive, so this March, take some time to give back to those who give us so much!
