You may know that poor dental care can lead to cavities, infections, and the dreaded root canal. But cavities aren’t the only thing you have to worry about if you don’t brush and floss daily.

  1. Bad breath: If the risk of cavities doesn’t motivate you, maybe bad breath will. Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is caused by the buildup of bacteria that feed on remaining food particles. If you do maintain good dental care but still have bad breath, talk to your dentist’it could be a sign of another issue, like gum disease.
  2. Pregnancy complications: Studies show that poor oral health can lead to a several pregnancy complications, including premature birth, low birth weight, and it can even put the infant at risk of tooth decay. Pregnant women should make sure to visit the dentist and take extra steps to care for their teeth.
  3. Medical issues: Research shows that poor oral health can lead to a variety of health issues outside of the mouth. Dementia, pneumonia, kidney disease, cancer and diabetes are just a few that have correlations with poor oral health. Simply brushing and flossing will keep much more than your mouth and teeth healthy.
