The Wisdom Gained After Losing Wisdom Teeth

You may be losing four wisdom teeth, but you learn a thing or two during your recovery. This is every lesson we have learned from post-op wisdom teeth removal.

The most important thing is to keep your mom or favorite caretaker close! Who doesn’t want their mom around when they feel under the weather? This goes for all ages (there is no shame in wanting your mom around even after moving out).

Ice is your best friend. You may experience swelling and/or bruising a few days after the surgery, so don’t be surprised if you wake up looking like a chipmunk; we have all been there. Just place ice on each side of your face and do cycles of 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off to help with the pain and swelling.

Ice cream! Ice cream helps numb your mouth, and is easier to eat the first few days while you are still sore. Don’t ever turn down an excuse to eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sit still! Easier said than done if you are use to being a busy bee. The more active you are, the more likely your mouth will bleed. If you can take a few days to sit still and allow everything to heal, then you will be able to go back to your normal routine more easily. This also gives you plenty of down time to binge-watch Netflix, which we all secretly love to do anyway!

Finally, focus on the healing process in any way you feel your body needs. If you pay attention, you will be full of wisdom when it’s all said and done.
