Ginger comes from Southeast Asia and is widely used in cooking and baking.

It also comes with a long list of health benefits, and you can get a convenient dose in tea form. Here are some of the benefits you’ll reap with a hot cup.

  • Helps fight nausea: If you experience nausea, such as after surgery, morning sickness, cancer treatments, or motion sickness, ginger’s anti-nausea properties can grant a quick relief. In fact, according one study, consuming ginger was just as effective as over-the-counter anti-nausea medications. Even if it’s just an upset stomach or indigestion, ginger tea can help.
  • Relieves pain: Ginger also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which can help eliminate joint pain, menstrual cramps, muscle soreness, and headaches. In one study, the pain relieving effects of ginger were the same as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (or NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
  • Fights disease: There have been many studies that show ginger may be beneficial in fighting certain diseases. Most notable is its cancer fighting potential, due to anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been used both preventively and therapeutically for diabetes due to its effects on insulin in the body.

So next time you’re feeling chilly this winter, make yourself a nice cup of ginger tea and enjoy the benefits!
