The kids are on break for a week so what’s a parent to do? Well, parents, you can breathe a sigh of relief, we have some ideas for you that will keep your kids busy and (hopefully) off technology for majority of their time away from school.

Craft time

Organize an art project that you can do with your kids like this fun, Tooth Fairy Pillow craft. It can be super simple, and will be a lot more exciting than drawing with crayons on paper.

Experiment with science

Activate your kids’ curiosity while they’re away from the classroom with a science experiment. Here’s a really cool experiment that explores chemical reactions with hydrogen peroxide and looks just like toothpaste squirting out of a tube.

Visit your local library

Who doesn’t love getting lost in a good book? Make a trip to your local library and spend the afternoon reading. If your kids don’t have their own library cards, take this opportunity to sign them up for their very own! Here are some of our recommended children’s books on going to the dentist:
• The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss
• Let’s Meet at Dentist by Mari Schuh
• Peppa Pig Dentist by Scholastic
• Did Dinosaurs Have Dentists by Patrick O’Donnell

Get them involved around the house

If you’re thinking this sounds a bit like chores, you’re kind of right. On top of their normal chores, give them opportunities to be involved in tasks outside their normal routine. This might look like picking out a recipe that they can make for lunch or dinner or gardening. Allowing them to take on new responsibilities and have ownership will help to boost their self-confidence.

Schedule annual and twice annual appointments

Use the open availability in your kids’ schedules to make annual or twice annual check-ups with pediatricians, dentists, orthodontists and other healthcare providers. This way you won’t have to pull them out of school at a future date. Also consider making appointments with specialists during this time. You may find that they have more availability with many people traveling over spring break.

We hope this has given you some ideas for a spring break of fun!
