Did you know that caring for your oral health will also help your heart? In honor of the month of love, we created a 14-day plan to help you establish habits that will benefit both your smile and heart. Read on to see what you can do to keep both your smile and heart happy!

Day 1: Launch Success!

Begin your journey by committing to brushing your teeth for two minutes every day and night. Make sure to use a good fluoride toothpaste and if needed, consult your dentist to see which brand is best for a brighter and healthier smile!

Day 3: Don’t Forget the Floss

Make sure to accompany your brushing with flossing! With so many different types of floss products, you don’t have to stick to traditional floss. Look into floss picks or water flossers if you are not a fan of the conventional option. Whichever type you choose, you’re already on your way to improving your oral health.

Day 6: Water is Key

Make sure to keep hydrated throughout the day which helps promote a healthy mouth environment. Your muscles, including your heart, need water to function properly so it’s a win-win situation for both your smile and heart.

Day 9: Snack on Healthy Treats

What is your go-to snack? If you like to eat a lot of candies or other sugary treats, consider switching out one of these snacks for a fruit or vegetable. These more nutritious options will satisfy your cravings and boost your overall health. Want a bonus? Prevent stain build-up on your teeth by eating crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots!

Day 12: Exercise regularly!

Now, let’s introduce some exercise to get your heart pumping. It will not only strengthen your heart but help reduce your risk of gum disease. Research has shown exercising regularly will help lower inflammation – including your gums. Don’t forget to consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

Day 14: Be Proud of Your Accomplishments!

Now that the two weeks are up, take a moment to be proud of all the habits you’ve learned. Keep them to help your heart and smile stay healthy for years.

Want to add another healthy habit to your list? Visit a dentist twice yearly to ensure your smile is free from cavities and gum disease. Remember your oral health is connected to your heart health! If you haven’t been to the dentist for some time, book a visit with the closest Castle Dental near you.
