Independence Day, a great celebration of patriotism and summer. This is a great holiday for kids, with the big fireworks and feasts. However, it’s also the perfect time to insert a little history into the celebration and showcase what makes our country so special. This 4th of July, it’s time to pull out the patriotism and get creative with kid-friendly activities. Here are just a few ideas to help you celebrate!

Fireworks

Fireworks on the 4th of July are like costumes on Halloween; they’re a necessity! However, fireworks aren’t always kid-friendly. Little ones can be scared by the loud bangs. To keep things easy, start with small fireworks like sparklers that are fun for the whole family. Looking for a stress-free way to enjoy the fireworks? Guess how many red, white, and blue fireworks will be launched, and the person with the closest guess gets first dibs at dessert!

Patriotic Party Games

Since this holiday is all about the American spirit, what better way to celebrate than playing patriotic party games? Don’t know what to do? It’s easy to turn regular games into patriotic-themed versions. Try setting up a relay race, water balloon fight (can you say Americans vs. British?), or even a blueberry or strawberry pie-eating contest. Prizes can be simple with specialty desserts, special fireworks, or whatever you can think of!

Red, White, and Blue Treats

Dessert is the best part of any celebration and the 4th of July is no different! With fresh fruit in season, making delicious treats all themed for the holiday is easy. Make sugar cookies and let the kids lend a hand with frosting the cookies in red, white, and blue! Younger kids can decorate the finished product with themed sprinkles in fun shapes and colors, making it a family event. If sugar cookies aren’t your thing, baking a blueberry or strawberry pie can bring another element of patriotism to your party!
