Keeping Up Kids Dental Health In Summer
Tuesday - September 20th, 2016

Just because summer is a vacation from school doesn’t mean it should be a vacation from taking care of teeth!
While we fully support having a fun, relaxing summer with your kids, here are some tips to make sure their oral health doesn’t go by the wayside.
- Keep a routine: Summer means no more school, but that doesn’t mean your kids days don’t need structure. Make sure kids stick to their regular morning and nighttime routines for brushing and flossing their teeth.
- Keep them hydrated: In hot summer weather, make sure your kids stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. They may be tempted to gulp down lemonade, sweet tea, and soda, but remember that these beverages are filled with sugar that causes cavities. Always keep water on hand instead.
- Keep them safe: If your kids play sports or play around in the pool, make sure they wear a properly fitted mouth guard and helmet. Injuries to teeth commonly occur during the summer when kids slip and fall at the pool or are playing too rough. You can schedule a dentist appointment to get a custom-fit mouth guard for the best protection.
- Keep them healthy: Kids diets can take a turn for the worse during summer months ice cream, popsicles, and concession foods are just a few of the culprits. Be sure to keep on eye on the healthfulness of their snacks, and keep healthy options nearby.
